Southern Star Scuba was established under DaSal, Inc.

which is owned and operated by Dave and Sally Wheeler.

Sally and I have been diving together for over 42 years.  

41 years ago, we got engaged underwater in Cozumel.

We have 2 sons that dive. Several years ago I certified one

daughter-in-law and two of our four grandchildren.

I have now certified three generations of my own family,

which I consider to be a special blessing. Families with children

as young as 10 can now start diving together.

As for me, I have been teaching SCUBA and taking folks diving

for over 54 years.  I have certified divers thru the YMCA, NASDS

and PADI.  2022 was my 50th year with PADI. I am also certified as a HSA Instructor (Handicapped Scuba Association) and PSS

I have been the owner or co-owner in 3 dive shops (The Village Dive Shop – Corning, NY, Sport Diving Services – Midland, TX and Southern Star Scuba - Ovilla, TX)

and one Dive Travel Agency (Tropical Concepts – Houston, TX).

I have been diving on the West Coast, East Coast, Gulf Coast, Mexico and Canada.  I have had the opportunity to dive in many international destinations including, but not limited to, Iceland, Truk Lagoon, The Red Sea, The West Coast of Scotland, Thailand, Dubai, Turks & Caicos, Aruba, The Bahamas, Roatan, Belize, Cozumel, Costa Rica, Curacao, St. Eustis and The Philippines. 

I not only teach SCUBA - I share SCUBA.  I don’t want you just to become certified, I want you to become a diver.  I want you to get the hours and hours of enjoyment from diving that my family and I have gotten over the years.

Now that the corporate world no longer occupies most of my time, I have the time to share with you as your instructor, dive travel consultant, dive travel guide or dive buddy.  I look forward to doing that.
